Monika Kita is a London based artist who works in medium of photography and video. Her art practice is mainly concerned with the subject of identity and oppression. She is particularly interested in the mechanism of when an individual loses his/her identity while subjected to oppression. The relationship between different types of medium is also present in her work. Monika sometimes uses a particularly ‘disturbing’ style in her practice to reveal and emphasise the truth about the cultural status quo and to bring the audience out of its apathy and inertia.
She has presented her work in many individual as well as collective exhibitions since 1998. She has also made contributions to several publications including London Independent Photography Magazine and Panoptikum.
